Andreia Salvador

She has a degree in Speech Therapy from the Escola Superior de Saúde do Alcoitão, a Master’s degree in Intervention for active ageing, a postgraduate degree in Speech Therapy in an educational context and is currently a PhD student on the Doctoral Programme in Child Studies, Special Education route, at the Institute of Education of the University of Minho, developing her thesis “The involvement of children with and without Autism Spectrum Disorder in pre-school routines”.
Since September 2012, she has been an Adjunct Guest Lecturer on the Degree Course in Speech Therapy at the School of Health of the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria.
Since 2002 and until 2015, she developed her professional experience in intervention in School Groups with Structured Teaching Units for the intervention of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. At the same time, she developed her clinical practice at APPDA – Leiria and is currently working on a differentiated project for the assessment and intervention of young children with neurodevelopmental disorders, as part of a multi-professional team that assesses and intervenes with children at an early age with limitations in their communicative and linguistic profile.

She has focused on training in various intervention programmes for Autism Spectrum Disorder and other neurodevelopmental disorders, namely the “SCERTS Model – Social Communication, Emotional Regulation and Transactional Support”, the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) programme; Pivotal Responsive Training (PRT); DIR-Floortime; MAKATON, among others.
In the scientific field, she has given several oral presentations at conferences and training courses on Autism Spectrum Disorder, Communication (strategies) and Augmentative and Alternative Communication, aimed at Speech Therapists, other professionals, parents and children. The area of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (selection of the support product, its implementation and follow-up intervention) has been the focus in the development of research projects, which converge with current clinical practice.
