Research

The aTOPlab has established itself as a hub for innovation and applied research in the field of Rehabilitation. Over the past years, we have developed and supported several projects, including:
  • Undergraduate Final Projects in Occupational Therapy;
  • Master’s Degree Projects in Hand Therapy;
  • Support for other academic and clinical research initiatives.

Our main research areas focus on:
  • Product development through additive manufacturing (3D printing), creating customized solutions for individuals with specific needs;
  • Case studies on differentiated therapeutic interventions in both cognitive and motor domains, exploring innovative approaches to enhance functionality and participation.

In collaboration with Fundação MEO, APPC Porto, the Centro de Reabilitação do Alcoitão, and HES Inovação, aTOPlab is currently working on the development of the MagicContact Augmentative and Alternative Communication Application, originally created at the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda. This project aims to promote accessibility and communication for people with motor and/or cognitive limitations.

Our commitment to scientific dissemination is reflected in the publication of technical-scientific articles and book chapters, contributing to knowledge sharing and the advancement of professional practice.
